Brett Lee explains why Australia never sleged Master-Blaster

Sachin Tendulkar, a legendary cricketer from India, was one of history’s best batters. The right-handed hitter made his debut against Pakistan in November 1989 when he was 16 years old. He played at the highest level for 24 years before declaring his retirement in 2013. Sachin faced numerous renowned players and teams. He ended his career as the player who scored the most runs in both Test and ODI cricket, and his record for doing so is still standing.

In both ODI and Test matches against Australian sides during his playing career, Sachin took part in a number of high-profile contests and, for the most part, did well. Sachin faced the Australians in 110 games in all. Out of the total 110, Sachin scored 3630 runs at an average of 55.01 in 39 Test matches. Against the Baggy Greens, he hit 16 fifty-sixes and 11 centuries.

The Australians had a reputation for using psychological tricks in the past to pressure and unnerve opposing teams and players. However, Lee recently uploaded a video on his YouTube account in which he explained why the Australians never attempted to sledge Sachin.

“Sachin Tendulkar on the field is completely different to what he is off it. When you bowl at him, you look into his eyes, the eyes of a tiger. He wants it, wants to get into the battle.”

“We always told each other, ‘Don’t speak to Sachin when he is batting.’ Because if you get under his skin by trying to sledge him, you know he will be batting out there forever.”
