After BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had admitted earlier this year that a Women’s IPL will be held in 2023, the board has now reportedly earmarked a window for the much-awaited competition in March 2023
Cricket fans all over the world, and especially cricketers, have been waiting for the Women’s IPL for a long time. Over the years, India’s cricket stars and overseas players have expressed their desire for a larger tournament than the current three-team annual competition known as the Women’s T20 Challenge. However, after BCCI president Sourav Ganguly admitted earlier this year that a Women’s IPL will be held in 2023, the board has now reportedly set March 2023 as the date for the much-anticipated competition. However, when a journalist asked if there would be a women’s IPL next year, star India batter Smriti Mandhana had an epic reaction.
It was after the Women’s Hundred match between Oval Invincibles and Southern Brave at the Kennington Oval. Mandhana had scored a fiery 25-ball 46 in Southern Brave Women’s 12-run win.
Following the game, a journalist inquired, “With the Women’s IPL coming up next year, can we expect the same level of enthusiasm back home?”
Mandhana’s reaction was simply epic when the reporter mentioned the Women’s IPL before she replied, “I think whenever we play, there is a lot of enthusiasm back home, regardless of the format.” Indian fans adore cricket and come out in force to support us, regardless of whether the match is one-day or T20. So the Women’s IPL will be fantastic.”
