KL Rahul made a return to the Indian team during the 1st ODI against Zimbabwe, where he also led the side. He wasn’t needed to bat as India won the match by 10 wickets but his geture just before the national anthem won hearts. Here’s how Twitter reacted to KL Rahul spitting chewing gum out before the national anthem.
Team India made a strong start to the series against Zimbabwe, winning the first ODI by a comfortable 10-wicket margin in Harare. The side bowled the hosts out for 189 before Shubman Gill (82) and Shikhar Dhawan (81) guided India to a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Deepak Chahar, Prasidh Krishna, and Axar Patel each took three wickets with the ball, while Mohammed Siraj was dismissed.
KL Rahul made his comeback to the side, playing in his first international match since early February. Rahul also led the Indian team in the match on Thursday, and while he didn’t get to bat (Rahul shifted himself to the middle order to accommodate youngster Shubman Gill in the opening role), social media was flooded with praise for the Indian captain for his heartwarming gesture before the game.
As the teams lined up for the national anthems before the start of the match, Rahul pulled out the chewing gum from his mouth as a gesture of respect. The video of the incident was widely shared on social media.
