Former Indian batter Wasim Jaffer reckons that Virat Kohli will remain in the number three position for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia in October. Jaffer added that KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma should open, and players such as Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan can also contribute to the squad.
The former Indian opener is impressed with the aggressive approach that India has taken in recent times, and he believes that has increased India’s chances of winning the T20 World Cup. Jaffer also spoke about the scheduling and players having to manage to play across formats.
“It will be dangerous to cut Virat off at the moment. He is, maybe, a break away from freshening up. He has such a vast experience. He has set a high standard for a long time, so we are judging against a great player. He is one of the most exciting cricketers to watch, I think he just lights up a stage, and makes an electric atmosphere when he is playing. The BCCI, the management and the selectors will just need to be patient with him,” the three-time World Cup winner said.
“Virat will remain in his original No. 3 place in the team. KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma should open, and other players like Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan can contribute significantly to the squad,” said Jaffer during a session of ‘CricChat show’ on the Sharechat app. “I feel that the aggressive approach that India has undertaken is very nice to witness. India’s chances of winning (T20 World Cup) are bright,” said Jaffer.
Kohli is currently enjoying his break with his family and will be eager to regain his form when he makes his comeback for Team India in the upcoming Asia Cup. Kohli was rested from the last edition of the Asia Cup in 2018 where Rohit Sharma led India to victory. The former captain will be hoping for redemption in the tournament this year.
