Suresh Raina, who was passed over by the franchise at the mega-auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year, will compete in various T20 competitions all over the world.
It has been an incredible honour to represent my country & state UP, he wrote in a tweet announcing the news on Tuesday. I’d like to declare my retirement from all cricket formats. The southpaw has made the decision to leave the IPL and will play in T20 tournaments in South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates. The upcoming domestic season will not see Raina on the field for Uttar Pradesh.
The news outlet Dainik Jagran earlier quoted Raina as saying,“I want to continue playing cricket for two or three years. There are some exciting youngsters who are coming through the ranks of Uttar Pradesh cricket. I have already taken my No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA). I have informed BCCI secretary Jay Shah and vice-president Rajiv Shukla about my decision.”
Starting on September 10, Suresh Raina, a former Indian hitter, will compete in the Road Safety World Series.
“I will play in the Road Safety Series. T20 franchises from South Africa, Sri Lanka and UAE have contacted me but I am yet to take any decision,” said Raina, who has been training at the RPL cricket ground in Ghaziabad for the past one year.
