Taking a dig at critics, Shubman Gill opened up about facing criticism after a successful run against the West Indies.
Opening the batting with Shikhar Dhawan, he played a crucial role in India’s win in the ODI series.
Returning to the Indian ODI side for the West Indies series, Gill presented a strong case for himself in the white-ball format. The swashbuckling batter played a couple of crucial knocks in the three-match ODI series between the two former world champions. Gill has been also named in India’s ODI squad for their upcoming away assignment. Dhawan-led Team India will meet minnows Zimbabwe for a three-match series in Harare.
Speaking to Telegraph India ahead of the ODI series, opener Gill said that he is unperturbed by criticism as the star batter only focuses on contributing to his team’s success. “I feel questions will always be raised, but I don’t really care about what people are saying as long as I’m able to contribute to my team’s success, and as long as I am doing what my team management and my captain expect of me,” Gill said.
Gill was named the Player of the Series in the Caribbean. The Gujarat Titans (GT) opener smashed 205 runs in the three-match ODI series between India and the West Indies. Gill also shared his experience of working with batting legend and India’s head coach Rahul Dravid. “My discussions with Rahul Sir have mostly been on finding the right mindset and capitalising on the opportunities I get. It’s not that we’ve been working much on the technical side of things. It’s more on the mental side of the game,” he added.
