The president, Sourav Ganguly of BCCI will step down from the board of ATK-Mohun Bagan after RPSG acquired the bid for Lucknow franchise in IPL for a record of INR 7,090. By staying to be a part of both teams, he will be violating BCCI’s conflict of interest policy.
As per ESPNcricinfo, Sourav has started the action of standing down from hs role at Mohun Bagan. In India Mohun Bagan is one of the most popular footballs clubs and also currently being part of the Indian Super league. Ganguly being one of the directors and also shareholder on the Mohan Bagan Board.
The vice-chairman Sanjv Goenka, owner of Mohun Bagan as well as the as-yet-unnamed Lucknow IPL Franchise told on CNB-TV 18:
“Well, I think he is going to step down from Mohun Bagan completely. I think today. It is for Sourav to make the announcement. I mean, sorry. I think I pre-empted it,”
The conflict of interest rule as per the BCCI constitution states: “When the BCCI, a Member, the IPL or a Franchisee enter into contractual arrangements with entities in which the individual concerned or his/her relative, partner or close associate has an interest.
“This is to include cases where family members, partners or close associates are in position that may, or may be seen to compromise as individual’s participation, performance and discharge of roles.”
Ganguly and his former Indian team-mate VVS Laxman, they were found holding more one post in Indian Cricket team. In past Ganguly was dragged into conflict of interest controversy when in 2019 he was the president of Cricket Association of Bengal and an advisor with Delhi Capitals.
