With the century, Iyer became the 16th Indian to score a Test century on his debut and 10th to do so at home. Prithvi Shaw was the last Indian to achieve this feat and also the youngest in the country.
With Iyer now registering a century to his name, it would be interesting to see who would make way from the playing XI when skipper Virat Kohli marks his return for the 2nd Test in Mumbai.
Among some of the biggest names to have scored a hundred on Test debut are: Mohammad Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, and Shikhar Dhawan.
