The Afghanistan leg-spinner reached this milestone, in the 53rd match, by dismissing veteran Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez in their Super 12 match of ICC T20 World Cup 2021 at Dubai .Rashid Khan achieved the feat by dismissing Mohammad Hafeez during the ICC T20 World Cup, Super 12 match between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Former Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga had held the previous record by completing his century in 76 matches ahead of New Zealand seamer Tim Southee (82 matches) and Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan (83 matches).They are also the only four bowlers to bag 100 wickets in the shortest format of international cricket.Rashid Khan now holds the rare double record of being the fastest bowler to pick 100 wickets in One Day Internationals and Twenty 20 Internationals. He achieved the feat in the 50-over format in his 44th match in 2018. Rashid is now the third-highest wicket-taker in T20Is.He owns 101 scalps from 53 T20Is at an incredible average of 12.22.His average is the lowest among the bowlers with 50 or more T20I wickets.Rashid is only behind Shakib Al Hasan (117) and Malinga (107) in terms of wickets.In the match against Pakistan, he overtook Tim Southee on the wickets column (100).
The Afghanistan-Pakistan game was set to have fans coming in from Dubai , but not many would have expected a near situation as groups of Afghanistan fans tried to get into the Dubai international cricket stadium without tickets.
Rashid is one of the greatest spinners in limited-overs cricket. He became the first-ever leg-spinner to complete 100 wickets in T20I cricket. This is a tremendous achievement as Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi is the only other wrist-spinner with 90 or more T20I wickets (98). The former has an opportunity to attain a number of other milestones as the T20 World Cup progresses.
