Picking up from where he left.

Ronaldo became United’s first Portuguese player when he signed before the 2003–04 season. His transfer fee of £12.24 million made him, at the time, the most expensive teenager in English football history. On 27 August 2021, Manchester United announced that they had reached an agreement with Juventus to re-sign Ronaldo, subject to agreement of personal terms, visa and medical.

The transfer was reported as costing an initial £12.85 million, with a two-year contract plus an optional year, and was confirmed on 31 August. Cavani switched to no.21 and once again people glanced from the Stretford end to see no.7 wearing Portuguese titan walk on the pitch. The theatre of dreams had an energy which hadn’t been seen for many years. Their boy wonder was back, only now he was a 5 time Ballon D’Or winner, a 7 time league winner and 5 time champions league winner and had more than 700 goals to his name.

The kid, United and Sir Alex mentored and sent out to the world was now one of the greatest players of all time and now he had come back to help the club which gave him so much. In the first month back, Ronaldo has hit the ground running winning player of the month for the fifth time in his career. The Portuguese superstar netted three times in as many league appearances over the course of the month in which he returned to England, ensuring he would top the vote

Ronaldo beat Mohamed Salah, Allan Saint-Maximin, Antonio Rudiger, Joao Cancelo and Ismaila Sarr to the September prize. The 36-year-old scored in first half stoppage time of that match at Old Trafford, before doubling his tally to restore his team’s lead just after the hour mark. A week later he went on to score against in an away win over West Ham.

He scored a total of 5 goals in 6 appearances for United and showed brilliant physique and feel for the game considering he is 36 years old. Even though he never seems to slow down, one has to ask till how long. A move to United may be step in the direction of slowing down. Many speculate that Cristiano may retire after his stint with the red devils as he has indicated that he won’t be going to MLS like many legends as he wants to retire at the very top.

All united fans hope the Ronaldo can bring them glory and help the club return to its winning ways. This player of the month award is a certainly a step in the right direction.
