When Pakistan’s cricket team faced Sri Lanka in the final Super Fours game at Dubai International Stadium, it was once again evident that Pakistan’s fielding is not a strength. When Pakistan batted first, they only managed to score a meagre 121 runs, failing to prevent Sri Lanka from defeating them by five wickets. Sri Lanka entered the final with all the momentum, in addition to bowling well. Along with their dismal batting, Pakistan also displayed yet another ruthless fielding strategy that nearly ended the careers of two of their players, Hasan Ali and Iftikhar Ahmed.

When Dasun Shanaka, the captain of Sri Lanka, received an off-cutter from Mohammad Hasnain in the 17th over of the game, he smashed it straight to long on, where two fielders—Ali and Ahmed—converged on the ball. Fortunately, one of them backed out, and Ali finished the catch since the pair didn’t realise they were headed in the same direction. They eventually realised that they were both just seconds away from suffering a severe injury and laughed it off. It’s interesting to note that both played catch-catch, as seen in the video.

Returning to the game, Sri Lanka overcame a shaky start to defeat Pakistan by five wickets in the final Super 4 match of the Asia Cup on Friday thanks in large part to an outstanding bowling performance from opener Pathum Nissanka.

In the practise match before the summit match on Sunday, Sri Lanka was reduced to 29/3 after five overs of chasing a meagre 122, but the 24-year-old Nissanka kept the innings together with his unbeaten 55 off 48 balls. Pakistan was dismissed for 121 in 19.1 overs by the superb bowling of Sri Lanka, which was headed by mystery spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, who claimed three wickets.
