IPL 2021 might be the last season for Kl Rahul as Punjab Kings captain and batsman. The skipper is expected to end his 4-year journey at Punjab Kings and will be available in the Auction pool for the Mega auction coming up next year. Rahul had joined the team in IPL 2018 for Rs 11 crore.
The 29-year-old has been one of the most consistent batsman in IPL since 2018.He missed IPL 2017 due to an injury, but joined Punjab Kings in 2018 for a mega-auction of Rs 11crore. The batsman didn’t fail to deliver consistent results since then
R Ashwin was replaced as PBKS captain ahead of IPL 2020 and Kl Rahul was appointed as captain of the team. But Rahul has failed to inspire the team into the playoffs in his two seasons as captain.
Kl Rahul displayed incredible consistency throughout the season. He has performed exceptionally well over the last two seasons. He was orange cap holder in the last season. In IPL 2021 skipper has scored 626 runs in 13 matches and currently holds the orange cap.
Rahul also reached the milestone of 3000 IPL runs in 80 innings. The second fastest batsman to score 3000 runs IPL and fastest Indian to do so.
Unfortunately, Punjab Kings have failed to qualify for playoffs over the last two seasons under Kl Rahul captaincy. This year history repeated itself and team ended up at sixth position on points table. The team didn’t perform well in last few matches.
As per a report in Cricbuzz, Kl Rahul will not feature for Punjab Kings in IPL 2022 and is expected to be available for Mega Auction. Few franchises have shown interest in buying him. The report further states that discussions conversation has taken place behind the scenes to make sure Rahul’s leaving from PBKS is an ‘amicable one’ for both parties.
