After taking a month off, former India captain Virat Kohli rejoined the team for the Asia Cup and was selected in the playing XI for the pivotal match against Pakistan on Sunday in Dubai. In the team’s five-wicket victory, Kohli contributed 35 runs. While some analysts claimed that they only had a glimpse of Kohli’s dominant nature, others praised the performance. India veteran Kapil Dev joined the discussion and offered his opinion on Kohli’s return in the match against Pakistan.
In an interview with ANI, Kapil expressed his opinion, saying that he was pleased to see Kohli back in the team and that he was the India star who needed to be more assured about his shots. He added that Kohli was fortunate to have survived the near-dismissal scare he experienced early in his innings as he prodded the wider delivery from Naseem Shah towards slip and Fakhar Zaman missed the perfect opportunity.
“Virat Kohli’s form is not a concern of mine, but it is fantastic to have him back. I just want him to be more confident about the fact that he saw a few shots that had an impact. He appeared good as he returned. He was fortunate to be dropped in the first over, but he was there regardless of the game he was playing. Because of his approach throughout the past ten years, which I like, he is a far bigger player than anyone else “said Kapil Dev.
The World Cup-winning captain of India continued by saying that all Kohli needs is one successful game to get back in shape.
“Don’t concentrate on winning races for your country, but rather recognise that you are representing something far greater than yourself: your country. He ought to still feel as though he is speaking for the nation. No player will ever receive a score of zero in a game, but given his talent and skill, I believe it shouldn’t take him long to regain his form. He only needs one strong inning to return, and I am confident in that “said he.
In India’s second game of the Asia Cup 2022 against Hong Kong, Kohli will be fired up and ready for a great performance.
