IPL 2022 RETENTIONS BY BCCI.

The BCCI, in a letter to the franchises, confirmed that the existing 8 teams will be allowed to retain a maximum of 4 players between November 1 and November 25. The two new teams can pick a maximum of 3 players before the mega auction.Indian Premier League teams can retain up to 4 players in the lead up to the mega auction for IPL 2022, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has conveyed in a letter to the franchises. The two new teams who will be part of the next season will be allowed to pick 3 players before the auction. BCCI reveals restrictions on salary cap for retained players ahead of mega auction.

After announcing the two new teams, Lucknow and Ahmedabad and their owners, the board has confirmed that the existing 8 IPL teams will get a chance to retain four players from their existing squad the limit being – not more than three Indians (capped/uncapped), two overseas and two uncapped players.The two new teams will get a chance to pick three players outside the auction the limit being – not more than two Indians, one overseas and one uncapped players. The purse for each team has also been increased to INR 90 crores and the BCCI has outlined how much funds will be decreased from the purse after the franchises retain the players.

Salary and deductions of IPL team:

BCCI has reportedly confirmed that each of the ten IPL teams will have a salary purse of INR 900 million (Rs 90 crore) for the mega auction. The board has also finalised the deduction in case of retentions by each team. If a franchise decides to retain a total of four players, INR 420 million (Rs 42 crore) will be deducted from their total purse. In the case of three retentions, a team will have to part ways with INR 330 million (Rs 33 crore). INR 240 million (Rs 24 crore) will be deducted from a team’s purse in case of two retentions and INR 140 million (Rs 14 crore) will be deducted from a franchise’s purse in case of single retention.

The breakdown of the salary cap of retained players:

4 Players –  INR 420 million (Rs 42 crore)

Player 1 –  INR 160 million (Rs 16 crore)
Player 2 –  INR 120 million (Rs 12 crore)
Player 3 –  INR 80 million (Rs 8 crore) 
Player 4 –  INR 60 million (Rs 6 crore)

3 Players – INR 330 million (Rs 33 crore)

Player 1 –  INR 150 million (Rs 15 crore)
Player 2 –  INR 110 million (Rs 11 crore)
Player 3 –  INR 70 million (Rs 7 crore)

2 Players – INR 240 million (Rs 24 crore)

Player 1  –  INR 140 million (Rs 14 crore)
Player 2  –  INR 100 million (Rs 10 crore)

1 Player – INR 140 million (Rs 14 crore)
