Batter-wicketkeeper Sanju Samson failed to make the cut for the Indian squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 tournament, which was announced on August 8 by BCCI. Instead, the selectors went in with Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik as wicketkeepers for the tourney.
India also included KL Rahul in the Asia Cup 2022 squad as the vice-captain and he can keep wickets if needed. However, the fans were not happy with Sanju Samson not being named in the standby players list as well.
The Kerala cricketer was not the only well-known personality who did not qualify for the Asia Cup. Two other T20I regulars, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer did not make the 15-man roster announced for the flagship tournament, which begins on August 27 in the UAE, but the social media outpouring was primarily saved for Samson. What irritated supporters the most was that the Rajasthan Royals skipper was not even regarded as a standby, despite the fact that three players – Axar Patel, Shreyas Iyer, and Deepak Chahar – were nominated.

The tournament, which serves as preparation for the Asian sides in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup later this year, was shifted to the UAE last month due to the political and economic crisis in Sri Lanka, who retain the hosts’ honour.
