India Women beat Pakistan Women in a Group A match of the Commonwealth Games 2022. After restricting the Women in Green to 99 runs, the Indian team completed the task with 38 balls to spare.
With this win, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur broke former men’s team captain MS Dhoni’s record of most victories in the shortest format of the game by an Indian captain.
India had lost the opening fixture of the games against Australia. But the bowlers bowled magnificently against the arch-rivals to give Harmanpreet her record-breaking 42nd win in T20I cricket.
She has led India in 71 T20I matches, winning 42, losing 26, with three ending without any result.
Dhoni won 41 matches out of 72 as captain. On the other hand, Virat Kohli captained India in 50 T20I matches, winning 30, and losing only 16.
Women Cricket Team
Despite losing their opening match at the CWG with Australia, the Indian team has qualified for the semi-finals in the Commonwealth Games. This year stands out for the Indian women’s cricket team as this is the first time it gets to be a part of the roaster.
It goes without saying how proud India is of the women’s team, yet the roots of the sports fraternity in India remain biased towards the men. Women are still not encouraged to go ahead with sports as a career and not enough is funded for the development of women’s sports. When will we start to acknowledge the capability of women to be good at this?
