There isn’t much time left for Team India to travel for the T20 World Cup. The Men in Blue will play T20I matches at home against Australia and South Africa before leaving for Australia.
India is coming off a lacklustre Asia Cup campaign in which they were eliminated at the Super 4 level. Before the major ICC tournament, Rohit Sharma and company need to work out their kinks, but given the time limits, that may be easier said than done.
The following issues could arise for India during the T20I series against Australia.
A few prominent players are absent from Australia’s roster for the T20I series against India. David Warner was never considered, while Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh, and Marcus Stoinis will miss the assignment due to minor aches and pains.
Tim David is about to make his international debut for the Kangaroos, so Australia will still be a competitive team, but they won’t accurately represent the opposition India would face at the T20 World Cup. Even though the defending champions are one of the top T20 teams in the world, their lineup will almost certainly differ significantly from that of the Men in Blue.
India still has six T20 Internationals left before the T20 World Cup, but they are still far from deciding on their ideal batting order. They must make flawless decisions against Australia because they have many inquiries to respond to and little time to do so.
The T20I series against Australia will be missed by Arshdeep Singh, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar hasn’t been particularly effective recently at the death. In this case, Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel are in charge of the death bowl.
Bumrah and Harshal are both returning from injuries that prevented them from competing in the Asia Cup, which is unfortunate for India. It would be foolish for the pair to play all three T20Is right away after their comeback because they are unlikely to be at their peak fitness level, even if they are.
The workload of Bumrah and Harshal will need to be carefully managed, which could leave India without any good death bowlers for a stretch of the series against Australia.
