Following what occurred in the penultimate over of Wednesday’s match between Pakistan and Afghanistan at the Sharjah stadium, a fight broke out between supporters of the two countries in the stands. It quickly became extremely ugly, with chairs and bottles being thrown. The security could not control things as it went out of hand. It is unknown if any of the tragic incident’s spectators were hurt. The Cricket Stadium allegedly began to suffer damage from the Afghan fans. According to reports, angry Afghan fans attacked Pakistani supporters at the stadium because they were unable to contain their emotions. People’s support for the sides became polarised shortly after social media users began sharing videos of the violence.
When Afghan fans “beat” Pakistani fans, a Pakistani journalist named Hamza Azhar Salam questioned whether Sharjah Police would identify them. Can @ShjPolice identify the Afghan supporters who are ruthlessly assaulting Pakistani supporters on Sharjah’s streets? Salam tweeted a video of the altercation.
After taking out nine wickets, Afghanistan was outstanding on the field and had Pakistan on the verge of collapse. In the last over, Pakistan needed 11 runs but only held one wicket. The favourites were without a doubt Afghanistan. However, Naseem Shah delivered two powerful smashes that ended Afghanistan’s hopes of competing in the current Asia Cup.
