Virat Kohli may have at last scored his 71st century in a match, but India’s early withdrawal from the T20 Asia Cup raises many concerns for the team’s management, especially with the World T20 just over a month away. Rahul Dravid, the team’s head coach, stated that although losing two games in the Asian tournament’s “Super 4” round does make his squad bad, there is no need to overreact because he still has the difficult process of assembling the ideal team and determining the duties for each player.

Ex-selector Saba Karim shoots warning before T20WC

Former national selector and player Saba Karim believes Dravid is aware that his honeymoon period as India’s coach is over with India’s elimination from the Asia Cup. Since Dravid’s tenure, India has defeated New Zealand, the West Indies (twice), Sri Lanka, England, and tied with South Africa in bilateral T20I series. But Karim clarified why the head coach of India is in a tight spot right now.

“Well even Rahul Dravid is aware that the honeymoon period is over, and he is trying his best to be an alchemist but so far, such metals haven’t been converted into core. One would expect him to do that. This is crunch time for Rahul Dravid,” said on Sports 18’s show ‘Sports Over The Top.

Karim brought up India’s Test losses to South Africa and England, suggesting that Dravid would have traded those losses for the bilateral series victories India had under his leadership. Dravid’s tenure as head coach had a rocky beginning with a series loss in South Africa against a young Proteas team and a defeat at Edgbaston.

“If given an option, Rahul Dravid would love to have those Test series wins in South Africa and the last Test match in England. He would love to swap that with so many bilateral wins that India has got under his belt. But that’s the nature of the challenges which Rahul Dravid has to face,” said Karim.
