Joshna Chinnappa and Dipika Pallikal, another experienced Indian pair competing, will play their round of 16 match later today.
On Thursday, young squash players Sunayna Kuruvilla and Anahat Singh advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the women’s doubles competition.
In their first encounter, Sunayna and the 14-year-old Anahat defeated Yeheni Kuruppu and Chanithma Sinaly in straight games, 11-9, 11-4.

The Commonwealth Games’ squash competition included teenager Anahat Singh and Sunayna Kuruvilla, who put up a strong effort to advance to the women’s doubles pre-quarterfinals on Thursday.
In a round of 32 match, Anahat and Sunayna, who are both competing in the CWG for the first time, defeated Yeheni Kuruppu and Chanithma Sinaly of Sri Lanka 11-9 11-4.
In the match, Anahat, a 14-year-old who had won a round in the women’s singles, blasted some crisp wins. However, the pre-quarterfinal will be India’s star player Dipika Pallikal, who spoke highly of the gifted kid, backed up the Indian duo.
The current women’s doubles world champions, Joshna and Pallikal, are predicted to win their second gold medal in CWG history.
Saurav Ghosal made history on Wednesday by becoming the first Indian to take home a singles medal from the CWG. Later on Thursday, he will compete in the mixed doubles with Pallikal.
The mixed doubles titles were also won by Ghosal and Pallikal earlier this year at the World Championships.
