Fans worry as the Spanish continue their bad performances.

As a fan of the Camp Nou, it pains me today this, but I will say it. Barcelona is in a state of crisis, of that there can be no doubt. It is potentially the greatest crisis in the club’s history — even including the four decades spent while Spain was run by a right-wing dictator who disliked Catalan culture, banned the language and imprisoned or “disappeared” many from that city and its environs. But question a dozen different people and you’ll almost certainly get a dozen different answers as to what they believe the true crisis at the club to be.

Barcelona are drawing against teams like Granada, teams which only used to be just another three points which are going to get us closer to championship. Barcelona’s biggest problem continues to be its debt load. The club’s financial net debt at the end of March, when new management took over, was 673 million euros ($792 million).

The adjusted provisional debt’s now above 1 billion euros, including the payment of players’ salaries deferred during the pandemic. The club is conducting an audit and the final figure could be higher.

To address the problem, Barcelona has hired Goldman Sachs to sell 525 million euros of private placements that will partly refinance debt but also will provide more liquidity. This big financial problem forced Barcelona to lose their most iconic player of all time and arguably the greatest of all time, Lionel Messi.

The Argentine even offered to endure a hefty pay cut to keep on playing for the club where he won everything, however even that was out of question for Barcelona’s budget.

The club’s front line has never been this out of sync with the rest of the field and the pistol just keeps misfiring. But with one Argentine gone the Spanish side look towards another for hope. The source of that hope is none other than the former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero. Aguero has shown his worth in the premier league breaking multiple records and being fourth in the most goals scored list.

With Depay already in the team, maybe the Netherlands striker and Aguero can link up and produce some magic for the fabled grounds of Camp Nou and all its fans, because it is high time that Barcelona get their affairs in order. We all know that Messi is gone but the only people who don’t seem to realise it, is the team itself. They must move on from that ugly break-up and get back to their winning ways.

Because as football fans we have all seen great clubs become iconic clubs and then become legendary. But we have all seen them fall too. Do we want another Icon to fall from where it rightly belongs, like so many before? Sergio Aguero has a huge responsibility on his shoulders and we hope he realise it.
