Axar Rajeshbhai Patel, also spelled as Akshar Patel, is an Indian international cricketer who plays for Gujarat in domestic cricket and for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. He is an all-rounder who plays as a left-handed batsman and slow left-arm orthodox bowler. He made his ODI debut on 15 June 2014 against Bangladesh. He was selected in India’s 15-man squad for the 2015 Cricket World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand. He made his Test debut for Indian against England on 13 February 2021, where he took 7 wickets.He became the ninth bowler for India to take a five-wicket haul on debut in Test cricket.On 21 November, against New Zealand, he took his T20I career-best figures-3/9 (3) and was awarded the Man of the Match award.

Axar Patel’s five wickets helped India bowl out New Zealand for 296 in their first innings on Day 3 of the first Test in Kanpur on Saturday.New Zealand lost last eight wickets for 82 runs as Patel’s 5-62 put India in command. The hosts finished at 14-1 at stumps, with a lead of 63 runs.The tourists had collapsed from 151 without loss in reply to India’s 345, with openers Tom Latham (95) and Will Young (89) missing out on centuries.

Left-arm spinner Axar Patel once again proved his worth in Indian conditions as he registered yet another five-wicket haul in Tests on Day 3 of the ongoing first Test vs New Zealand in Kanpur. Patel dismissed Tim Southee for five runs to complete his fifth fifer in four games for the senior side. Earlier, Patel bagged the crucial wickets of Tom Latham, Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls and Tom Blundell as he powered his way through a clueless New Zealand middle-order. Former cricketers and experts like Aakash Chopra, Wasim Jaffer, Ayaz Memon and others praised the spinner for his brilliant outing with the ball.

Chopra went a step further and hailed Axar as the “Test Debutant of the year.” Memon also praised Axar for his stupendous show with the ball.Wasim Jaffer expressed his happiness in his own unique style and posted:”Very well bowled @akshar2026 I’m sure you’re gonna sleep well tonight Smiling face with open mouth and smiling eyes #INDvNZ.” BCCI and several Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises also lauded the left-arm Indian spinner.
