Team India completed their tour of Zimbabwe with a tense 13-run over the hosts at the Harare Cricket Ground on Monday (August 22). After securing two straightforward wins in the first two games in the series, the hosts gave a tough fight in the last game of the series with Sikandar Raza scoring a memorable century.
Zimbabwe however took things down to the wire as Sikandar Raza scored a century but it went in vain as India registered a win by a paltry 13 runs. India thus won the series by whitewashing Zimbabwe 3-0.
Following India’s series win, stand-in captain KL Rahul said that he was happy with the performance, but would have been happier if they wrapped things up a little earlier. “Feels good, we came here with good ideas. We wanted to be out in the middle and use this time. They have been very professional, very happy with the result. They took the game deep, we would have liked to finish the game earlier. The bowers were tested and they held their nerves,” Rahul said in the post match presentation ceremony,
KL Rahul made his return to international cricket in this series having last played in the IPL in 2022 and then being ruled out due to injury. He said that he was tired after coming back after a couple of months. “Fielded about 120 overs, got some time out in the middle with the bat. I am tired of coming back after a couple of months. But this is what we all want to do, playing for India,” the skipper added.
Just after the IPL 2022, KL Rahul was supposed to be the captain of the Indian team for the series against South Africa, but was ruled out to due to a groin injury.
He then missed the tour to England owing to the injury, and had a successful sports hernia operation in the end of June. He was supposed to feature in the squad for the series against West Indies, but again missed out due to being diagnosed with COVID-19. Rahul was then added to the squad in the tour to Zimbabwe and made the captain replacing Shikhar Dhawan, who was announced as the leader of the side, initially.
