Real Madrid won the Spanish SuperCopa on Sunday with a win over Athletic Bilbao 2-0 in Saudi Arabia.
Luka Modric scored the first goal of the final in the 38th minute, remarkably this was the first goal of his season and he delivered when it mattered the most.
Luka Modric was named as the MVP of the historical final night at Saudi as he became the oldest Real Madrid goal scorer at the age of 36 since Amancio Amaro who scored at the age of 34.
Karim Benzema doubled the lead as Madrid were in 2-0 lead but the moment of the final was the penalty kick save by Thibaut Courtois which defied the physics throwing himself to the right and simultaneously lifting a leg high to his left to save the goal.
The coach and manager of Real Madrid Carlo Ancelotti deserves all the credit for building a strong team that backs and plays on their strengths consistently and more often than not gets the job done for them.
The coach Ancelotti after the game said, “It’s an impulse, an impulse to keep going”. “We don’t have much time to think because another competition is coming.”
Ancelotti now has five trophies to his tally with the latest being The Supercopa adding it to the list of Copa del Rey, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup which he won during his first spell with the club.
Real Madrid head over to face Elche in the quarter finals of Copa del Rey on Wednesday and Paris Saint germain next month in round of 16 of the champions league.
