The absence of Shaheen Shah Afridi from the Asia Cup 2022 due to a knee injury is expected to be a major setback for Pakistan’s chances in the six-nation competition. Afridi will miss the tournament due to a posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injury he sustained during the Test series against Sri Lanka last month. Afridi was responsible for controlling the explosive India top order in last year’s World T20. It has been suggested that the 22-year-old take four to six weeks off.
Afridi is out of the competition for the entire time, but Pakistani veteran Waqar Younis’ latest tweet criticising the Indian team quickly went viral.Younis was more worried about Shaheen’s absence from their Asia Cup opening against India, which prompted fans to respond angrily.
“Shaheen’s injury Big relief for the Indian top order batsmen. Sad we won’t be seeing him in #AsiaCup2022 Get fit soon Champ @iShaheenAfridi,” Younis tweeted last week.
The legendary bowler has clarified his statement and explained why left-arm bowlers like Shaheen have an advantage over openers. He claimed that he didn’t want for his tweet to be seen as a jab against Indian players.
“Shaheen ki absence ek big relief toh hai saare openers ke liye. Indians ka maine bas thoda masala… but ye bhi mohabbat nai, aisa nahi hai ke koi dushmani hai”.Younis stated at an interaction facilitated by OneCricket with sports journalist Vimal Kumar.
