According to Rohan Gavaskar, it would be unfair to Virat Kohli to gauge his performance solely on a fifty-plus score against Hong Kong.

In their final Asia Cup 2022 Group A game in Dubai on Wednesday, India set a lofty 193-run mark for Hong Kong after Kohli’s unbeaten 59 off 44 deliveries (August 31). Then, their bowlers held Nizakat Khan’s team to just 152/5, giving them a comfortable victory by a score of 40 runs.

Gavaskar was questioned about his thoughts on whether Virat Kohli’s half-century was a one-off or if he has started to recapture his form during an interview on the Sports 18 show “Sports Over the Top.” He answered:

“I don’t think we do justice to the skill and the kind of performances that Virat has done in the past,” said Virat Kohli of his half-century against Hong Kong.

A fifty from Kohli’s willow was practically guaranteed, according to Gavaskar, when he had faced presumably inferior attacks like Hong Kong. The former all-rounder for India noted:

“With all due respect to Hong Kong, a half-century against Hong Kong is something that we would have taken for granted in the past when Virat is going out to bat, because this is what he has done against most teams,”

In his 35-run performance against Pakistan, Virat Kohli.

Gavaskar hopes that Kohli’s performance against Hong Kong was an indication of his return to form. He clarified:

“No one is hoping that was an isolated incident, as every Indian cricket fan will tell you. Since we have seen what Virat is capable of, we are hoping that he is getting back into shape. He has provided hints.
