Fans happy as Pedri signs a long term deal with Barcelona.

Pedri, the Spanish international is currently one of the few plus points of the broken Barcelona squad. The 18-year-old has displayed skills and game sense of a seasoned player and its hard to believe that he is still a developing player. was named in the Euro 2020 team of the tournament, has agreed a deal that will keep him at the Camp Nou until 2026. His new contract will be officially signed on Friday, the club said.

Pedri joined Barcelona from Las Palmas in August 2020 and quickly established himself as a starter in midfield. He played 53 times last season in a hectic campaign – the most appearances of anyone at the club. There were some fears that Barca might not be able to hang onto their new star with a crippling financial situation and other teams circling, but he’s now committed his long-term future to the club.

Pedri five-year deal sees him join Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema in having such a huge contractual condition. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims Barca will now look to tie down more of their future assets, with deals for Ansu Fati and Gavi also in the pipeline.

Elsewhere in Catalunya, there has been more good news with summer signing Sergio Aguero finally resuming training. The former Manchester City star picked up a calf injury during training has kept him out of action since the summer. But Aguero is in line to make his debut having played and scored in a behind-closed-doors friendly during the week.

Ahead of their clash at home to Valencia, Barcelona are sitting ninth in La Liga after a poor start to the season under Ronald Koeman. Much-maligned former president Josep Maria Bartomeu was replaced by Joan Laporta who had previously guided the club through their golden era under Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique.

However, after his appointment Laporta soon revealed the club was loaded with an eye-watering €1.35billion worth of debt. So currently the only good news for Barcelona fans is that Pedri is here to stay. He is a young player with a lot of potential and fans expect him to walk the path on which many Spanish greats have previously walked.

Barcelona are in dire trouble and with Aguero all set to play, maybe Pedri can produce some magic with the Argentine and achieve glory for the club. We all remember the last time a Spanish midfielder and an Argentinian forward played together for Barca; those were better times. But now Camp Nou moves forward in search of new faces, new hope and new glory.
