After winning the first match by 7 wickets, India beat Sri Lanka by 3 wickets in the second game as well. In the 2nd ODI, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat. Coming to bat, Sri Lankan openers started strongly as they shared a 77-run partnership for the first wicket. Dhananjaya de Silva and Charith Asalanka handled the middle-order pretty well where they scored 32 runs and 65 runs respectively.
Chamika Karunaratne knocked another quick 44 runs to help his team finish reasonably well. In the end, Sri Lanka piled up 275 runs at the end of 50 overs. Yuzvendra Chahal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up 3 wickets for India while Deepak Chahar grabbed 2 wickets.
Coming to chase, Indian openers failed to help the team with a promising start but after the top-order failed, Manish Pandey and Suryakumar Yadav soaked the pressure very well and scored 37 runs and 53 runs respectively in the middle-overs to get India back on track. Also, Krunal Pandya came in at no. 7 scored 35 handy runs.
After his wicket fell, Deepak Chahar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar stitched a match-winning partnership of 84 runs where Deepak Chahar hammered an unbeaten 69 runs while Bhuvneshwar Kumar provided him with decent support by scoring 19 runs and holding one end safely. Wanindu Hasaranga scalped 3 wickets for Sri Lanka.
Deepak Chahar was adjudged the player of the match for his unbeaten match-winning knock and also a solid performance with the ball early on (69 runs and 2 wickets).
