Many people were puzzled as to why an injured Shaheen Shah Afridi was travelling with the Pakistani team at the Asia Cup.
Shaheen was forced to miss the second Test against Sri Lanka, the ensuing ODI series in the Netherlands, as well as the Asia Cup in the UAE due to injuries he acquired while fielding during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle in mid-July.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chose the pacer for the Asia Cup squad rather than sending the player to rehab. But after a few days, he travelled for London to receive treatment for his knee injury there in order to fully recover before the T20 World Cup, which starts in Australia in the middle of October.
Shahid Afridi, a former captain of Pakistan, made the shocking claim on Thursday that the 22-year-old pacer travelled to England on his own personal expenses.
“He paid for his own flight to the UK and is paying for his own lodging there. I set up a doctor for him there, he got in touch with him there, and the PCB isn’t doing anything about it”, Shahid Afridi told Sama TV on Shaheen’s recovery.
He continued, “As far as I know, he is handling everything related to remaining there and coordinating with doctors on his own”.
