Despite not playing much Twenty20 cricket lately, veteran Indian spinner R Ashwin was selected for India’s T20 World Cup team. This year, Ashwin has only participated in five T20Is, including two games in the Asia Cup. Many people questioned whether Ashwin would make the World Cup roster, particularly since Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel were nearly guaranteed selections, but captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid wanted the seasoned spinner in the team.
According to rumours, the selectors preferred Mohammed Shami to Ashwin, but the coach-captain chose Ashwin. Prior to the major event in Australia, the spinner will next be seen in the T20I series against Australia and South Africa. However, Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel are expected to get the first shot in the playing 11, therefore he might not be the preferred spinner.
In the meantime, a video of R Ashwin bowling to street cricketers is becoming viral on social media.
Ashwin has a reputation as a T20 expert with a wide variety of strategies at his disposal. His outstanding performance in limited-overs cricket helped him win his first Test cap in 2011. In the next years, Ashwin rose to prominence as India’s top spinner across all forms, but in limited-overs cricket, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav quickly supplanted him.
Ashwin has been in and out of the lineup over the past few of years, and to be honest, neither have his performances. However, it is indisputable that Ashwin is one of the best players to ever represent the nation. Ashwin has recorded 442 test wickets in 86 games, 151 ODI wickets in 131 games, and 66 T20I wickets in 56 games. Additionally, he has a superb IPL record, with 157 wickets in 154 games.
