In their first game, Chennai didn’t start off well and lost early wickets which have been their problem since 2020. Once again, they were short of run rate in the powerplays. But Suresh Raina and Moeen Ali took the responsibility and built a solid foundation. Dhoni didn’t capitalize but he has good records in the first innings at Wankhede.
Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran steeled the show with their brilliant knocks and took Chennai to a fighting total of 188. Starting with the bowling, none of the Chennai bowlers had a good day except Dwayne Bravo. Shardul took a couple of wickets at the very end but it was too late. Chennai has a problem of having a one-dimensional bowler and the addition of Lungi Ngidi can be beneficial for them.
Punjab Kings, on the other hand, started with a bang on the same ground. Mayank Agarwal seemed to be a bit rusty but KL Rahul, Chris Gayle and Deepak Hooda were the biggest positives. They carried on the momentum till the very last and posted a whopping total of 221. Their middle-order seemed intact with having brilliant openers at the beginning.
