The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) extended Virat Kohli’s break from the game as he was again rested from the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe. There were speculations that the BCCI may send Kohli to Zimbabwe.
Looking at the way the BCCI has been handling the former India captain, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria accused the Indian board of doing injustice with Kohli and added that they might even drop him from the Asia Cup team if things stay as they are.
Kaneria first expressed disappointment at the decision to leave out Virat Kohli from the Zimbabwe tour as he called out the selectors for injustice. The former Pakistan cricketer said that if Kohli fails to perform at the Asia Cup, he will be targeted for his lack of form. But it is the selectors that are to be blamed.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Kaneria said that if BCCI feels Kohli should only play major tournaments then it adds pressure on him to perform because if he fails there, the critics will be all over him.
“Virat Kohli should have played in this series. Does BCCI think that he should only feature in major tournaments? But if he fails there, then once again there would be talks about his lack of form. I think that is an injustice for Virat Kohli,” Kaneria said.
“You have to be very clear with how you want to handle him. While he was rested for the entire West Indies tour, he surely should have been there for the Zimbabwe series. He could have found his form in the 50-over games and then played the Asia Cup. But it seems now that he might be dropped for the Asia Cup as well,” Kaneria further added.
