After defeating New Zealand, Pakistan has moved to the top of the points table in Group 2. They have beaten two powerhouse teams of their group India and New Zealand.
Pakistan started their journey with a great win against India. Pakistan brought to an end India’s near- three- decade domination of them in World Cup. Pakistan won the match by 10 wickets. Skipper Babar Azam smashed his way to 68 while his opening partner, Mohammad Rizwan stroked 79.
The Indian bowlers were struggling to contain the two batters. Both the openers were unstoppable and chased the target of 152 runs. The young pacer Shaheen shah Afridi from Pakistan dismissed both the openers of India. He took 2/19 in three overs and returned at the death to remove Virat Kohli.
In their second match against New Zealand, Pakistan won the match by 5 wickets. With this win, the Babar Azam led team side moved to the top of Group B with two wins. Haris Rauf’s four-wicket haul restricted the New Zealand team to a total of 134/8.
The top order batters, except for opener Mohammad Rizwan struggled but the experienced Malik scored 26 out of 20 balls. Ali flourished towards the end with a 27 runs and partnership of 48 runs. Their partnership helped the team to chase the target with 8 balls to spare.
