With the introduction of T20 leagues, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson believes the global cricketing scene is changing quickly and that finding a balance between franchise cricket and national duty is now essential.
Williamson’s remarks were made at a time when many cricketers choose to compete in lucrative T20 leagues over international competition.
It is complicated because it is altering. Williamson told reporters, “So much seems to have happened so rapidly.
“There does appear to be movement in the game’s environment. Every case is different, and every case has certain requirements at various phases of life.
Players making decisions about their playing careers “indicate that there is a balance to strike and some things to go through,” he continued. “There are a lot of different franchise events happening.”
After making a request to spend more time with his family and play in T20 tournaments throughout the world, Trent Boult was recently freed from his central contract.
Soon after, Boult was signed by Melbourne Stars for the Big Bash League (BBL).
On the other side, New Zealand all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme made the decision to stop playing international cricket and was signed by Adelaide Strikers of the BBL during the draught.
Williamson is now captaining the team in a three-match ODI series against Australia despite having a history of injuries, including a chronic elbow issue. Since the 2019 World Cup final, Williamson has only played three ODIs.
