Germany’s excellent form continues under Flick proving themselves to be a threat for the next World Cup.

In the world of football Germany have always been a force to reckon with. They have won the world cup on four different occasions with the most recent victory being in 2014, when they beat the Messi led Argentina in the final. Under Joachim Löw the team flourished as they played with an intelligent combination of experience and youth.

But after the 2014 win, the team seemed to slow down a bit. Löw brought in more talent and the team looked good until they in a do or die situation. The Euro’s and the 2018 world cup were hardly worth mentioning with the latter being a complete disaster as the previous champions succumbed to the winner curse and didn’t even get past the group stage.

Currently Germany have been in excellent form with their latest win coming against Romania in the world cup qualifiers. Romania scored first with only nine minutes gone on Friday evening, when Ianis Hagi danced through Germany’s defence before hammering the ball past Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Germany pressed frenetically for an equaliser, while Romania kept all their men behind the ball.

Germany continued to dominate after the restart and got rewarded as Gnabry eventually got his name on the scoreboard after taking advantage on Marco Reus’ tee up in the 52nd minute. It was Gnabry’s 20th goal in 30 international outings, Xinhua reports.

Romania couldn’t hold the pace while Germany pressed relentlessly and turned things around in the 82nd minute when Muller poked home Joshua Kimmich’s flicked on a corner to make it 2-1.

Hansi’s subs changed the game. By brining on Thomas Muller and Kai Havertz, Germany suddenly looked reinvigorated both mentally and tactically, looking like a much better side in the process. Even so, this was a tough game for the Germans. Müller, came on and did what he’s done so often for club and country, ghosting into space unmarked and turning in Leon Goretzka’s flick-on at a corner.

Germany move onto 18 points from seven games and stretch their lead at the top of Group J to six ahead of North Macedonia, who Flick’s side visit next on Monday, 11 October.

Germany are looking like true contenders for the world cup and have a somewhat similar attitude as they did in 2014 but with a new twist, like a last minute ingredient in a beautifully made cocktail. If this great form continues the 2022 world cup will be even more exciting with one more team realistically fighting for gold.
