He did manage to connect a few left jabs in between to startle the 20-year-old Scot, and in the last round, he unloaded a barrage of “one-two” combos (a left-jab followed by a right cross).

India now has five medals in boxing at the Commonwealth Games after victories by Amit Panghal and Jasmine on Thursday. After defeating Scotland’s Lennon Mulligan in the flyweight (48–51 kg) quarterfinal, Panghal secured a fourth medal from the boxing ring.

Later on in the day, Jasmine defeated Troy Garton of New Zealand in the women’s lightweight (60 kg) quarterfinal by a score of 4-1 split.

The Indian southpaw, who had won a silver medal at the last competition in Gold Coast, was declared the winner of the men’s match by a unanimous decision.

Despite the low quality of the fight, the 26-year-old Indian defeated his younger Scottish challenger by wearing him out with a strong defence. He occasionally launched a vicious counterattack to get points.

In the first two rounds, Panghal used a guard-down strategy to encourage Mulligan to attack but was able to evade his reach with some deft footwork.

He did score a few left jabs in between to startle the 20-year-old Scot, and in the final round, he rained down a barrage of “one-two” combinations (a left-jab followed by a right cross).

In actuality, Panghal was guaranteed a second CWG medal as Mulligan received a standing count at the end of round two.
