India fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel were on Monday ruled out of the impending Asia Cup 2022 tournament as BCCI’s selection committee named their 15-man squad for the tournament that is slated to begin from August 27 onwards. Harshal had earlier missed the second and third T20I match of the ongoing series against West Indies after he suffered a rib injury. He was also not picked for the series opener in Trinidad earlier this month. Meanwhile, Bumrah had last played for India in the ODI away series in England and was rested for the limited-overs tour of West Indies and the upcoming one against Zimbabwe.
Bumrah took to Instagram on Wednesday, August 17 to share a picture with Patel.
He captioned the post,”The writing on the wall says it all.”
Both Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel are currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The two will be aiming to regain full fitness ahead of the all-important T20 World Cup, which is slated to begin in October later this year.
Vice-captain K.L. Rahul will return to action for the first time since the Indian Premier League in May. Rahul, who underwent surgery for a hernia, had been scheduled to play against the West Indies this month but was ruled out of the series after testing positive for COVID-19.
Kohli was rested after India’s tour of England ended in mid-July and has played just in four T20s and scored 81 runs since the Twenty20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates last year. He also had below-par run in the IPL last season, making 341 runs at a strike rate of 116.
