Ravichandran Ashwin, the India and Delhi Capitals off-spinner, announced on Monday that he will exit from the IPL 2021. He cited to help his “wives and extended family” who are fighting Covid-19.
Ashwin announced his decision on social media. He also confirmed that he would return to play for the Delhi Capitals “if things go well.”
“I would be taking a break from this years IPL from tomorrow. My family and extended family are putting up a fight against #COVID19 and I want to support them during these tough times. I expect to return to play if things go in the right direction. Thank you @DelhiCapitals,” Ashwin said.

Rising Cases of Covid 19 in India
IPL 2021 was held in bio-bubble ecosystems around India’s major cities, as the country battled a second surge of Covid-19. On Sunday, India saw a daily increase of 349,691 new infections and 2,767 deaths.
The number of Covid-19 cases in India has increased to 1,69,60,172. According to the health ministry, 2,17,113 patients have been discharged in the last 24 hours, leaving 26,82,751 active cases.
On Sunday, Ashwin was a part of Delhi Capitals’ Super Over victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2021 Match 20. In IPL 2021, Ashwin appeared in all five games for Delhi Capitals. He picked up a wicket and conceded at a rate of just over 7 runs per over.
