Punjab Kings failed to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2021, despite coming so close for qualification. They were close to qualify last year as well but failed and team didn’t perform very well in their last few matches.
The history repeated this year itself, and they lost some crucial matches towards the end of the season.
IPL 2022 Mega Auction is coming up next year, the Punjab team management will soon have to decide the players they wish to retain before auctions.
BCCI have decided that, respective team can only retain 3 players. In addition, it is being educated that the salaries of retained players will be deducted from their auction wallets before heading towards Mega Auction.
BCCI also reported that to increase the wallets of buyers from INR 85 crore to 95 crores with the including of two more teams.
Let’s talk about the 3 players Punjab may consider retaining before going into the auctions.
1) Kl Rahul
The skipper of the Punjab team who has been amazingly consistent with the run-scoring. Rahul’s great batting performance was one of the few shining lights for the team. The right- handed batsman had won the orange cap previous season.
In this season he has scored 646 runs in 13 matches and currently holding the first position in orange cap winner race. He has been excellent throughout the season.
Rahul has gained captaincy experience as well now, so Punjab team management will probably look to retain the skipper.
2) Mayank Agarwal
Agarwal was another batter didn’t failed to remain consistent throughout the league and performed exceptionally well in every match. The former RCB team star had great opening partnership with skipper KL Rahul.
Mayank aggregated 441 runs in 12 matches. He has performed very well over the two years along with KL Rahul. The Punjab Kings should retain both their Indians youngster.
3) Mohammed Shami
The Indian pacer Shami has bagged wickets consistently for his team. He has been one of the most successful bowler for the team. The pacer played in 14 matches with 19 dismissals.
Arshdeep Singh showed great support for Shami. Both the bowlers performed well and they can retain one of them.
